“I think there’s a fair amount of traffic over there with the Wal-Mart,” Wiley said. “There’s not a whole lot of other restaurants there, so I think we’ll do fairly well.”
The restaurant joins Wise Guys, Yamato Japanese Steakhouse, Sonic, Bob Evans and the Subway located inside Wal-Mart in the fast-growing area near Tuttle Road.
Wiley said the first location at 2953 Derr Road has done very well since it opened this summer.
“I think Springfield has done really well for us,” Wiley said. “The customers are glad were there, and we’re enjoying it.”
Customers will also be able to use the Derr Road drive-thru, which hasn’t opened yet because of technical difficulties. The location is just the second to have a drive-thru window with the other being located in Centerville.
“We knew it works, we just want to make sure that when we open it, we get it right,” Wiley said.
Hot Head Burritos is one of the fastest-growing restaurants in the United States. The chain currently has 43 locations in five states, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
This summer, Hot Head was opening a new restaurant every two weeks. It also plans to open new restaurants in Alabama, Texas, Florida and Michigan.
The chain employs approximately 200 people in its Dayton-area locations and will employ 30 in Springfield by the middle of this month.
The chain was named one of the top 50 fast casual restaurants in the country for 2012.
Wiley said it’s possible a third location could be coming to Springfield next year, bringing with it more jobs. He said they’ve been scouting possible locations in the area of Bechtle Avenue.
“I don’t think they’ll be another one this year, but maybe in 2013,” Wiley said. “We’re thinking there may be a total of three (in Springfield).”
