West Liberty-Salem’s Meghan Vogel will look to repeat her championship run in the 1600-meter race next weekend in the Division III state tournament at Ohio State University. Vogel finished first in the event at the Regional meet in Piqua with a time of 5:10.38.

The senior also qualified to compete in the 800, as well as a member of the 4x800 relay team. The Tigers will also be sending its 4x100 relay squad, consisting of Michaela Rausch, Abigail Rabenstein, Megan Etgen, and Morgan Freyhof, which finished second in the regional meet.

For the boys, West Liberty-Salem junior Taylor Cordell finished second in the 110-meter hurdles. However, Cordell was edged out of a state-qualifying spot in the 300 hurdles, as Cedarville junior Jonah Young bested Cordell by .01 seconds for the fourth and final spot in the event.

The Tigers’ 4x400 relay team (Conner Karg, Kelvin Shank, Ross Hickenbottom, and Cordell) qualified for state with a second-place finish.

Other area state qualifiers included Wes Haney from Emmanuel Christian, who ran a 1:56.24 in the 800, good for a third place finish. Mechanicsburg senior Brandon Welch finished second in the high jump.
