Third-ranked Wittenberg Tigers rout DePauw to reach 4-0

The Wittenberg Tigers men’s basketball team improved to 4-0 with an 88-63 victory at DePauw on Wednesday in Greencastle, Ind.

Wittenberg has climbed from a preseason ranking of No. 5 to No. 4 to No. 3 this week in the D3Hoops.com poll in the opening weeks of the season.

Landon Martin scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Jake Bertemes and James Johnson each scored 14. Connor Seipel had 11.

Wittenberg shot 64.2 percent from the field and made 9 of 16 3-pointers. Freshman Brice Hill made both of his 3-point attempts, scoring six points.

Wittenberg broke open a close game midway through the second half, going on a 15-1 run and turning a 43-42 lead into a 58-43 advantage with 11:41 to play.

Wittenberg is 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. It beat Oberlin 66-56 in its league opener Nov. 26. The Tigers play Allegheny in their NCAC home opener at 3 p.m. Saturday.
