Shawnee will meet Wyoming at Welcome Stadium

Shawnee will gun for its first regional title vs. undefeated Cowboys at Welcome Stadium.

SPRINGFIELD — Five area high school football teams entered the 2009 high school football playoffs, but after two weeks, only one team remains.

The Shawnee High School football team (9-3) will play unbeaten Cincinnati Wyoming (12-0) in the Division III, Region 12 final at Dayton Welcome Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20.

The eighth-seeded Braves will be gunning for their first regional title in school history. Shawnee lost to Clyde 7-0 in its previous regional final appearance in 2005.

Shawnee advanced to the regional final in thrilling fashion, beating Circleville Logan Elm 21-14 on a last-second touchdown grab to Steve Sarven from Evan Storts.

Wyoming, the No. 2 seed, came from behind to beat Eaton 34-32 in the first round, and Lemon-Monroe 14-7 in the second round on to advance to the regional final.

The Cowboys, the Cincinnati Hills League champion, are having their best season in school history. They finished the season ranked No. 3 in Division III.
