Prep Roundup: Urbana softball wins 4 games in 2 days

Urbana High School sophomore Leanna Pittsenbarger had two victories and a no-hitter as the Hillclimbers softball team won four games in two days.

Pittsenbarger pitched a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts as Urbana defeated Northeastern 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 17. Kaci Pena had two RBIs.

In game two, the Hillclimbers won 11-2. Pittsenbarger had three hits and two RBIs. Alyza Sherman also had two RBIs.

On Friday, Pittsenbarger threw her first no-hitter of the season with 13 strikeouts in a 1-0 victory over Glen Este. Also on Friday, the Hillclimbers (15-2) defeated defending state champion Hamilton Ross 6-0 behind a four-hitter by Courtney Fain.

• Haley Banion tossed a three-hit shutout as Southeastern (5-3) defeated Columbus Briggs 5-0. Banion had eight strikeouts in a 5-3 loss to Madison Plains.

• Mayelin Beekman had 18 strikeouts in 10 innings as Emmanuel Christian (5-0) swept past Sidney Christian 13-3, 16-1. Kaila Beekman had seven hits, including a home run and 4 RBIs.

• Addie Dixon had two RBIs as Triad (10-5) beat Fairbanks in game two, 5-1. Ciara Howell had 15 strikeouts, but the Cardinals lost game two 1-0 in 10 innings.

• Elizabeth Turner’s three-run homer sparked a five-run seventh as Graham (9-5) got past Piqua 8-3. The Indians won game two 6-5.

Boys tennis

Northwestern’s Zack Wildosky won the first singles title, defeating Valley View’s Byron Brown, 6-0, 6-2 in the finals of the Northridge Invitational.

Baseball

Luke Mamer struck out seven and pitched a four-hitter to lead Kenton Ridge past Eaton 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Mamer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the Cougars won 12-7.

Brandon Payton had five RBIs in the two games, and Derek Toadvine doubled and tripled in the first game. The Cougars are 10-4.

• Greg White struck out 10 in game one as West Liberty-Salem (11-2) beat Riverside 10-1. Levi Reed had four RBIs in game two, an 11-5 victory.

• Hunter Mickens had five hits and four RBIs, and Josh Black added six hits as Southeastern (5-8) took a pair from Madison Plains 11-10, 13-12.

• Tyler Reisinger went 3-for-3 with two RBIs as Triad got past North Union 8-3. The Cardinals (11-4) lost game one 4-3.

• Zack Shirk had three hits and four RBIs as Graham beat Piqua 15-5. The Falcons (8-6) fell 4-2 in game one.

Track and Field

Springfield’s Josh Bass won the long jump (23-feet-1½) and Alex Gaskin was first in the 100-meter hurdles (14.54) at the Dublin Coffman Invitational.

• Tecumseh’s Jasmine Redman won the 3,200 at the Butler Invitational in 11 minutes, 54.78 seconds.
