PREP ROUNDUP: KR golfers outlast Shawnee, Tecumseh

SPRINGFIELD — The Kenton Ridge High School boys golf team took an important early lead in the Central Buckeye Conference race by defeating host Shawnee and Tecumseh on Tuesday.

Clay Portz and Hunter Clark were co-medalists with 36s. Luke Schlicher fired a 40, and Seth Fearn carded a 41. The Cougars (2-0, 2-0 CBC) finished with a score of 153.

Clark Engle also shot a 36. Evan Lyons and Derek Tincher both had 40 as the Braves (1-1, 1-1 CBC) had 162. Connor Estes shot a 40 as the Arrows (1-2, 1-2) had 164.

• Nick Sims was medalist with a 36, and Jacob Rutan shot a 38 as West Liberty-Salem (4-0, 3-0 Ohio Heritage Conference) beat Catholic Central 162-183.

• Daniel Lenk shot a 42 to lead Northeastern (3-0, 3-0 OHC) past Cedarville, 180-208.

Girls tennis

Northeastern’s Lauren Davy bested Renee Pavlatos of Catholic Central in straight sets, leading the Jets (4-0) to a 4-1 win over the Irish.

• Hayley Sullivan outlasted Megan Schmitt 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in third singles as Northwestern (2-1, 2-0 CBC) blanked host Kenton Ridge (2-1, 1-1) 5-0.

Girls soccer

Christy Finney scored two goals, including the game-winner with 8:58 left, in the game as Urbana beat WLS 2-1 in the season opener for both teams.

Boys soccer

Brad Stengel scored a hat trick to lead West Liberty-Salem past Urbana 4-2.
