FORT LORAMIE — The No. 9 seed Catholic Central High School baseball team upset defending state champion Fort Loramie, the No. 1 seed in the Division IV Troy sectional, 5-2 in the second round Wednesday.
“I knew these guys could do it,” Catholic Central coach Zach Raines said. “We’ve got four guys hitting over .370. We can hit the ball. It’s just pitching and fielding were kind of our low spots, but we’ve had Mark Ellis and Kyle Cooper stepping up on the mound.”
Cooper threw a complete game against Fort Loramie, striking out four and allowing five hits.
“He’s the only senior on the team,” Raines said. “He put it on himself to practice every day and make sure he’s ready to go. He pitched lights out.”
Ellis doubled twice and drove in two runs. Dimitrious Dimitroff, Dylan Besecker and Ryan Fain also had RBIs.
