Graham girls team, KR’s Schlicher make it to state

Graham’s girls golf team won its second straight district title by 24 strokes at the Division II District Tournament at Heatherwoode Golf Course in Springboro on Thursday.

The Falcons finished with a 352 for the second straight year and qualified for the state tournament for the third straight year.

Falcons senior Jessie Jordan was tied for first with Sarah Kolodzik of Miami Valley with a 71. Jordan won a three-hole playoff to earn medalist honors for the 14th time this season, and the individual district title.

Lindsay Phillips was eighth (84), Rachel Stradling was 23rd (96) and Lindsay Black placed 30th (101).

“This group has been amazing,” said Graham coach Tom Reed. “It’s been a total team effort the last couple of years for us.”

Shawnee had a strong showing at its first district tournament with sixth-place finish (394). Annie Schakat was tied for 19th (94), Hannah Myers was tied for 26th (98), Brooke Reid was 29th (100) and Katy Ryan was tied for 31st (102).

Greenon’s Harley Larson finished 13th with an 89.

Kenton Ridge senior Luke Schlicher finished second overall and took the first state individual qualifying spot with a 76 at the D-II boys districts at Weatherwax G.C. in Middletown. Schlicher became the first Cougar to advance to state since the KR team qualified in 2002.

“I was really proud of the way Luke played,” said Cougars coach Chris White. “Nine pars on the front nine. One bad hole on the back, but overall he did very well. Luke has done it all year. He’s just been consistent.”

Kenton Ridge finished sixth as a team with a score of 330. Clay Portz shot an 80, Hunter Clark fired an 86 and Kyle Powell carded an 88.

Greenon placed fifth with a score of 326. Clay Robinson had a 79, Sam Klarer and Ross Brandon both shot 82s and Dylan Anderson added an 83.

West Liberty-Salem senior Ben Rutan also shot a 83 and Northeastern sophomore Andrew Williams fired a 90.

In the D-III districts, also at Weatherwax, Triad finished ninth (377) and Southeastern was 12th (384). Quinton Yocom was tied for eighth (83) to pace the Cardinals. Tyler Carper was tied for 19th (86) to lead the Trojans.
