Catholic Central senior forward Calum Latham was named to the D-III first team, the lone area boy to earn top honors.
Latham scored 59 goals this season, three shy of the OHSAA state record for goals in a season. He added 18 assists, guiding the Irish to the D-III regional semifinals for the third straight season.
He finished his career with 198 goals, smashing the previous state record of 172 set by Ken Willis of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney in 2004.
“It means a lot,” Latham said. “The past few years I’ve gotten second team, and I really wanted to get first team. I’m really happy to accomplish it.”
Maddalena finished the season with 26 goals and seven assists for the Irish, who advanced to the D-III district finals for the first time since 2001. She was also named Ohio Heritage Conference Player of the Year and All-Miami Valley D-III North Player of the Year.
“It’s really exciting,” Maddalena said. “It’s great to have four years of hard work pay off. I got where I am because of the team we have and Coach (Mark) Derr. I’m really thankful for Catholic Central and the program they have.”
Salhieh finished the season with 18 goals and 14 assists, guiding the Cougars to their first appearance in the D-II district final since 2006. She was also named CBC Kenton Trail Division Player of the Year. She joins her brother, Mohammad, as the only two players from KR to be named All-Ohio in soccer.
“I’m really proud of myself for pushing to get better,” Salhieh said. “Without my teammates or coaches or my family, it wouldn’t be possible at all.”
Neff had 27 goals and six assists this season for the Tigers (9-6-3). Neff’s main sport is softball, where she’ll play at D-I IUPUI.
“I’m really happy with it,” Neff said. “It has a lot to do with my team. I didn’t do it on my own. It comes from their passes and helping me out a lot.”
Greenon senior Jerron Bennington made second-team All-Ohio in D-II, while Greeneview junior Rylee Woods made second team in D-III.
Shawnee’s Briana Baise and Northwestern’s Lauren Bischoff each made second team in D-II, while Greeneview senior defender Katlyn Ireland was named second team in D-III.
