Of course, I suspect most dads who consider themselves fans would need to have this conversation with themselves first. But I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt here, assuming (wrongly perhaps) that most parents don’t parade around in the jerseys of their favorite players and live for this stuff.
Let’s just say that for anyone who keeps sports in perspective, the occasional lockout or strike is no big deal. Surely, at least pertaining to the NFL, such a person, unless he’s a compulsive gambler, has a multitude of Sunday options.
The games will go on when the owners and players tire of wrangling over the billions at stake, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it except feel bad for the ushers and vendors and other game-day employees who stand to lose income. Then again, maybe even the ushers and vendors could use a break.
That said, I am slightly curious as to whether the Browns can win more than they lose for once and whether Bengals owner Mike Brown truly is feeble-minded enough to hold quarterback Carson Palmer hostage forever.
OK, so it’s not that simple to let go. Just don’t tell that to your kids.
