About the Flyers

Chris Johnson has scored in double figures in 11 straight games, averaging 15.3 points in that span. In the first eight games of the season, he reached double digits just twice. ... The Flyers are ranked 296th nationally in field-goal shooting at 40.0 percent, but they shot 54.2 percent in the second half of the Saint Joseph’s game and 50.9 in the Xavier loss. ... Juwan Staten is first in the A-10 and 10th nationally in assists with 6.4 per game. ... Chris Wright is the only A-10 player to average a double-double in league play. He’s 23rd in career scoring at UD with 1,377 points. Next up is Garry Roggenburk (1959-62) with 1,398.

About the Rams

Fordham’s A-10 losing streak of 30 straight games is the longest since the conference was launched as the Eastern Collegiate Basketball League in 1976. ... The Rams had six wins by Dec. 22, one more than their previous two seasons combined. ... Their rebounding has dipped since the A-10 started. They’re getting out-boarded by 10.8 per game. Even Gaston has regressed. He was third in the nation with a 12.6 average in non-conference action but has averaged only 8.0 per game in league play. He was held out of the starting lineup in the Rams’ last game for undisclosed reasons but is expected to start against the Flyers.

FYI

UD will induct four athletes into its Hall of Fame: Mark Ashman (basketball), Jermaine Bailey (football), Megan McKnight Mahle (soccer) and Erin Treadway Hazelbaker (volleyball). Previous hall inductees will join the newest members on the floor during the ceremony. Ex-hoop greats Ryan Perryman and Ed Young are expected to participate.

Perryman also will be honored at the game with the Flyers wearing a throwback shooting shirt during warm-ups with his name and number on it.

Quote

UD coach Brian Gregory on Rams first-year coach Tom Pecora replacing the fired Dereck Whittenburg: “I thought Dereck did a great job bringing in really good players — you still have to have good players. They can get stuff done and play in this league and be competitive in this league. That starts with an attitude, and that starts with the head coach. You look at the future of Fordham with him in a leadership role, they’re going to be very, very good.”
