3 seriously injured in crash; man facing 8th OVI

Accident occurred Sunday in Springfield Twp.

A South Charleston man is facing his eighth OVI offense after a crash Sunday in Springfield Twp. that injured three people.

Mark L. Nibert, 57, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck west on Old Columbus Road near Bird Road around 3:50 p.m. when he went left of center and struck a 2010 Ford Fusion head-on, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post.

Nibert as well as the driver of the Fusion, Mark E. Travis, 54, of London, Ohio, and his front-seat passenger, 51-year-old Joyce A. Travis, were taken to Springfield Regional Hospital with serious injuries. All three were transferred to Miami Valley Hospital.

Nibert showed signs up impairment and was arrested for OVI, according to the patrol. Troopers also found illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia in the pickup truck. Nibert has seven previous OVI convictions in 2017, 2010, 2009, 1999, 1986, 1985 and 1983.

Old Columbus Road was closed for about three hours due to the crash. Fire and EMS from Springfield, Harmony and Pleasant townships as well as at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
