Springfield police are investigating a shots fired incident that was reported on Thursday night.

Officers were dispatched around 6 p.m. on Thursday to the 1100 block of Oakleaf Avenue in reference to a man with a gun, according to a Springfield police report. They were also advised that shots had been fired and the suspect fled the area.

When police arrived, they spoke with multiple witnesses and confirmed that no one was injured, the report stated. They also told police that a silver Honda, described to be beat up and missing a hubcap, circled the block multiple times.

“Witnesses then advised that a male exited the vehicle holding two semi-automatic pistols, one in each hand,” the report stated. “The male walked onto the sidewalk in front of (a residence on) Oakleaf Avenue before opening fire. The male shot approximately 10 to 12 rounds before running back to the vehicle.”

The vehicle then fled the area south on Norwood Avenue.

Officers found 11 spent shell casings on the sidewalk and road as well as a projectile which struck the side of a house and into the living room, the report stated. The shots caused damage to the siding, front screen door, front door and large window to the house.

“(The victim) advised that he was sitting in his residence when he heard the shots being fired. He did not see the suspect or vehicle when he exited his residence,” the report stated.

The victim told police he does not have any problems with anyone and does not know who would shoot at his house.

Springfield police continue their investigation into this incident.
