Springfield police investigate 2 shots fired incidents

Springfield police are investigating two shots fired incidents that were reported this week.

Officers were dispatched around 9 p.m. on Thursday to the 1500 block of Kenwood Avenue to investigate shots fired in the area, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they spoke with the two victims; one said the suspect shot at them.

“(The victim) stated he was sitting on the front porch when he observed (the suspect) walking on the north sidewalk eastbound on Kenwood. (The suspect) stopped near the speed sign about 30 to 40 yards from the house and fired three shots from an unknown handgun toward the house,” the report said.

The victim said he then ran inside and dropped to the ground, while the suspect left the area on foot.

The victim said the suspect was in the area earlier in the day and threatened to shoot him, the report stated.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Officers were also dispatched around 5 a.m. on Tuesday to the 1500 block of Charles Street on the report of shots fired in the area, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they found several spent shell casings in the street, and found the front metal glass screen door, metal exterior door and awindow frame had all been struck by several bullets.

A short time later, a witness arrived and told police that a dog that lives with his son had been shot and was being taken to a veterinarian hospital in Dayton, the report said.

Officers tried to contact the residents around the incident area, but no one was home.

No other suspect or witness information was available for either incident, and Springfield police continue their investigations.
