A Springfield man was arraigned Monday in Clark County Municipal Court on a charge related to an abduction.

Charles Church, 44, pleaded not guilty to abduction and disrupting public service, according to court records. He was given a $20,000 bond for the two charges, a no contact order with the victim and cannot be within 500 feet of her address. He remains in the Clark County Jail as of Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded around 3:25 a.m. on Jan. 21 to the 2500 block of North Limestone Street in reference to a disorderly, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

When police arrived, they spoke with the victim who said Church had assaulted her. She said she confronted him about an issue and he became “very irate” and “began to push her around her residence,” the affidavit stated. The victim tried to call 911, but Church took her phone and threw it against the wall.

“Church then grabbed (the victim) by her hair and drug her out of the residence and threw her into the bed of his truck. He then got into the driver seat of his vehicle and began to drive off. Church would accelerate and then slam on his breaks causing her to be jerked around the bed of his truck,” the affidavit stated.

The victim told police she then tried to call 911 again as Church got out of his vehicle, grabbed her by her hair and threw her onto the ground, the affidavit stated. She then ran back inside her residence and Church drove off.

A warrant was requested for Church, who was arrested around 6:25 a.m. Saturday morning, according to jail records.
