Early morning snow showers transitioned into rain by the early afternoon on Wednesday following predictions of up to seven inches of snow in some parts of the Miami Valley.

The mix of rain and snow, however, made road conditions slick for motorists in Clark County.

As of Wednesday morning, most communities were reporting about 2 inches of snow, with the Dayton International Airport and Union in Montgomery County reporting more than 4 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Springfield and Clark County road crews were clearing snow and ice off roadways early Wednesday morning, with remaining slush slowly melting throughout Wednesday afternoon.

A Level 1 snow emergency was lifted by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office by 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office responded to a few injury crashes related to weather.

The sheriff’s office responded to a report of a car flipped over onto its top in the area of U.S. Rts. 68 and 40 morning, and the sheriff’s office also help the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post with an overturned semi on Interstate 70, according to the sheriff’s office. Neither crash resulted in life-threatening injuries.

Deputies also assisted several non-injury slide-off crashes on Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Meteorologists had high confidence on Tuesday that some spots would get measurable snowfall and have lingering issues on the roads for the morning drive, according to a report by WCPO.

Clark County school districts and businesses closed in preparation for the expected weather.

NWS reported that small deviations in the tracks of the low-pressure center, pushing it north, and a surge of warm air on the southern side of the system, resulted in a shorter time frame for steady snow and a fast change to rainfall.

The NWS predicted that up to an additional inch of snow could fall in the region by Wednesday evening. There is also a chance of snow showers after 8 a.m. today. Otherwise, it will be cloudy and cold with a high near 34 degrees.

Snow showers are possible tonight, mainly before 11 p.m. It will be cold and cloudy, with an overnight low around 25 degrees, according to the NWS.

Friday will be cloudy and windy, with a high temperature near 36 degrees. There will be a chance of snow in the late afternoon, with a slight chance of snow showers Friday night that will mix with rain after 8 p.m. before gradually ending. Temperatures overnight will only fall a few degrees to around freezing.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy and warmer with a high near 40 degrees. Rain is expected to return overnight, which will have a low of 32 degrees.

Sunday will be rainy, mainly before 2 p.m., with a high near 39 degrees. A chance of rain and snow returns Sunday night, which will be colder with an overnight low around 22 degrees.
