Springfield police are investigating after a man was reportedly shot in his leg.

Officers responded around 2 a.m. on Sunday to the 600 block of East Rose Street in reference to a domestic violence call, according to a Springfield police report.

When they arrived on scene, police found a man that had been shot in the leg being treated by medics.

Officers then followed the victim as he was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center to be treated for gunshot wounds, the report said.

The victim told police that he left his residence to get away from a dispute with his wife when he was shot.

“(The victim) stated that he was near the intersection of Tibbetts Avenue and Catherine Street when a “newer, white SUV” pulled along side of him and began firing a gun at him. (The victim) subsequently sustained multiple gunshot wounds to both of his legs,” the report said.

According to the report, officers were able to find two spent shell casings near Catherine Street on Tibbetts Avenue.

The victim could not give a description of the suspect, and no witness information was available.

Springfield police continue their investigation into this shooting incident.
