New Springfield KFC opens today

First 50 customers will receive free chicken for a year

A new Springfield KFC restaurant is opening today in the parking lot of Meijer on Hillcrest Avenue.

“The first 50 customers will receive free chicken for a year,” Michelle Doebele, Director of Communications and Culture at KBP Investments, a company affiliated with KFC told the News-Sun.

The restaurant has a drive-thru with an indoor dining area - similar to the other area KFC locations.

Doebele previously said that they were expecting to hire more than 40 full- and part-time employees.

In July 2019, the land where the KFC is located, 1520 Hillcrest Ave., was rezoned by the city of Springfield before Plaza Street Partners, a real estate developer firm in Kansas, purchased the land for $250,000, Alex Dietz, the economic development coordinator for Clark County said.

Dietz said there is a continued interest in development near the new KFC.

“The conversations that we’re having with retailers whether that be on the QSR (quick-service restaurant) side, the sit-down restaurant side or regular retail side, is heavily focus on Bechtle Avenue,” Dietz said.

Doebele said that KFC is proud to be part of the Springfield community.

“We are excited to add another location, making KFC’s Original Recipe®, Extra Crispy™ and Extra Crispy™ Tenders, Hot Wings™, KFC Famous Bowls®, Pot Pies, freshly hand prepared chicken sandwiches, biscuits and homestyle side items even more accessible,” she added.

The new KFC opens at 10:30 a.m. today.

There are more than 24,000 KFC restaurants in over 145 countries and territories around the world. The other Springfield KFC restaurant is located at 2407 E. Main St.
