Local produce vendors will be selling vegetables, fruit and more on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Produce vendors include Stoltz Farm, The Lettuce Lady, Farmer John and Tecumseh FFA Students.
In addition to produce, Clark Family Farm meats will be on sale. Crew Cup fresh Roast Coffee will be great with those tables of baked goods. A variety of food vendors will tempt us all. After all, who wants to heat up the kitchen in the summer?
Tables and booths full of crafts and art will display local talent and industry. It is not too early to Christmas shop. Businesses along Main Street will also be highlighting specials.
Children will be thrilled with the Kid’s Corner play area that features a Lego Table and fun activities.
On top of the fresh produce, a stroll down Main Street in New Carlisle between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on any Saturday this summer can be entertaining.
As Scott Griffith of the Western Clark County Business Coalition told me, “It’s a good place to be.”
A different focus is planned for each week and some fun markets have already passed. There was a good crowd for July 5’s Salsa Day. Offerings ranged from mild to spicy to hot. New Carlisle Rotary Club’s contributions to the community, and Touch a Truck, were the headliners July 12.
Looking to the future:
- Saturday: The New Carlisle Community Garage Sale is also being held. Make sure you have room in your car for all your purchases.
- July 26: Santa will make a rare summer appearance. The Farmer's Market theme will be Christmas in July, featuring lots of bells, bells, bells. A Bell Choir will perform and the bell ringers of the Salvation Army and that familiar red kettle will be on hand. Kettle proceeds will help youth programs in the county. The question is: Will flocks of angels get their wings as we were told in "It's a Wonderful Life?"
- Aug. 2: Featured will be Family and Youth Initiative, FYI and Cole's Warriors, which started in New Carlisle. Tim Musser and students will take the stage.
- Aug. 9: Bud Brubaker and Mac MacKinzie from Storm's Creek will entertain with blue grass and gospel music while you shop. Learn about Bethel Churches United, Crop Walk and the Food Pantry.
- Aug. 16: Features a Heritage of Flight preview that includes a mini-car show. Be prepared for fun. Music by Gretchen McAlister.
- Aug. 23: Historical characters from the Fair at New Boston will walk among the shoppers to remind visitors of their upcoming event. Watch out for the rat catcher. Music by Colin Richards.
- Aug. 30: Music by Gene Skinner.
The Farmers Market continues every Saturday through Sept. 27. The market is sponsored by the Western Clark County Business Coalition (WCCBC), which is always interested in adding more local talent, products and/or art.
