ENON — Three residents are seeking two open seats on the Greenon Local Schools Board of Education

Incumbent board President Dennis Henry, former board member Anna Bucy and parent and engineer Mark Remetter are the three candidates seeking election on the Nov. 8 ballot.

Remmetter said he believed his experience as a structural engineer would be an asset to the board as it faces choices about the deficiencies with its aging facilities.

“My background is in professional structural engineering so I have working knowledge as to the way things should be done, could be done,” he said. “Part of my job every day is to find the most efficient ways to be accomplished.”

Remmetter is the father of two Greenon students and president of MER Engineers. He is active in the Greenon soccer and basketball community as a coach.

Bucy served one term on the Greenon board and lost her bid for re-election in 2009. She is a Greenon graduate and parents of a Greenon High School student and a college teacher and bullying specialist.

“Financial instability is the most pressing issue facing all public schools today,” said Bucy in the Springfield News-Sun voter’s guide. “I will continue to advocate for the students and for public education so our kids can have the best education possible, funded fairly. I will help make sure every dollar is spent strategically to improve the education of our kids.”

Henry has served on the board for 14 years and is currently the board president. He could not be reached for comment.
