“When a pet is not breathing, just like with people, you’re down to minutes,” said Wisenberger, pet CPR trainer for the Red Cross. “If you can do something to help save the animal before you are seeking out professional help — you’re going to shorten that critical time.”
On Saturday, May 22, pet CPR trainers will give free demonstrations during the third annual Woofstock event to be held at Wiggley Field in old Reid Park, Croft Road.
Discount coupons for the Red Cross pet CPR class are among dozens of items Woodstock vendors will offer during the event that runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The event is free and participants who purchase a $10 vendor card will receive a gift from the vendors.
Dog whispering, massage, grooming and demonstrations by police and arson dogs are among the day’s activities which will end with dog contests, determining the biggest paw, smallest paw, the best mutt strut, cool trick, most fashionable and best costume. Cost is $5 per category or $15 for unlimited categories.
Woofstock, the brain-child of Executive Director Mike Larson, drew more than 500 attendees and raised $5,000 for the Clark County Chapter of the American Red Cross last year.
More than 15 other Red Cross chapters have since adopted Woofstock events, Larson said.
