She was listed in serious condition just before 9 p.m. Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The car hit the end of a guardrail on the left side of the westbound two-lane road, turned on its side, then flipped several times, Cook said.
Initial investigation revealed the woman was likely not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
“We do believe that a seat belt at minimum would have probably reduced the severity (of the crash). That’s still under investigation at this time,” Cook said. “Due to the fact that the driver was ejected, it gives a great indication there probably was no occupant restraint device that was worn at the time of the crash.”
There was no indication of alcohol use or an animal in the roadway, Cook said.
Witness Wendy Riggle of Springfield Twp. said she did not see the car until it was overturning on her left as she drove in the right lane. Riggle said she approached the woman in the roadway, but received no response and did not see her breathing.
Riggle said the woman was later crying after emergency crews were on scene. She was thankful to hear the woman was alive.
No other injuries were reported. The crash is still under investigation.
