A video for the song was was filmed at the Clark County Fairgrounds last summer, shortly after the annual fair.
The song is a tribute to Hasting’s parents’ love story, who she said loved the Clark County Fair.
“If one thing represents who my parents are, it’s the fair,” Hasting told the Springfield News-Sun in July 2018.
The song is made even more powerful because her father died and her mother was injured in a car crash in June 2018. Hasting & Co. finished the video and performed the song in concert at the fair later that summer.
The video, which can be viewed on YouTube, has been viewed more than 90,000 since its release.
“The reaction has been insane,” Hasting said. “We’ve never had a video get attention like this.”
Hasting and bandmate Josh Beale later filmed another music video at a Northwestern football game in Springfield for the song “Behind the Bleachers.”
Hasting & Co. are set to perform in the Springfield area again in 2019.
Popular R&B and soul artist John Legend announced the release of "Preach," his latest single, last week.
The music video provides commentary on contemporary social and political issues. It was met with praise from his fans on social media.
“Thank you for continuing to spread messages that are clear and important, Instagram user Stephanie Valverde said.
“And most importantly, thank you for spreading positivity and light.”
Legend said on social media the song is meant to make listeners reflect on whether they are doing enough in the face of challenges.
“Sometimes we can get so frustrated by the news and what’s going on and there’s this battle going on in ourselves. Do we become apathetic? Do we become engaged? Do we just talk about it, or do we do something?” Legend said, adding the hashtag #CantJustPreach.
Legend also appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on Friday. On the show, Legend performed “Preach” alongside hip hop band The Roots.
Springfield teen Harmony Brown recently auditioned for "The Voice," a reality television singing competition.
At just 18, Brown performed in Nashville for the chance to compete on the highly-rated TV show.
Brown is known for her love of music and performing. She sang at her grandparents’ church and earned first place, two seconds, and a third with her brother as a duo at Springfield’s Got Talent competitions.
Brown has also performed in local productions and performed the National Anthem at Clark State Community College commencement and basketball games, as well as Shawnee High soccer games.
John Legend Theater Manager Terry McGonigle allowed Brown to rehearse and play the grand piano at the theater.
“That’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever done,” Brown told the Springfield News-Sun.
Brown was eliminated from The Voice competition, but said she will continue performing and studying music.
“I just want to create music people care about,” she said. “I love the experience of watching people be affected by the music.”
