Local country singer releases music video filmed at Clark County Fair

With the winter weather still here, a reminder of last summer can add some warmth in the form of a music video, and possibly warm the heart with its message.

Hasting & Co., a country music duo led by Springfield native and Northwestern High graduate Kate Hasting, debuted its newest video for the single "American Love" late last week. The song, written about her parents' love story, was made more poignant since Dan Hasting died and Libbee Hasting was critically injured in a car crash on June 30, 2018.

The video was shot not long after at the Clark County Fair. The duo committed to making the video and performing in concert despite the tragedy.

The video can be viewed at www.youtube.com. In its first four days, "American Love" has garnered more than 64,000 views, and Kate Hasting anticipates it could reach more than 100,000 by the weekend.

“The reaction has been insane,” she said. “We’ve never had a video get attention like this.”

The decision to shoot the video at the Clark County Fair stemmed from the Hasting family’s love of and participation in it. “If one thing represents who my parents are, it’s the fair,” Kate Hasting told the Springfield News-Sun in July 2018.

The video depicts Kate Hasting and bandmate Josh Beale performing at the fairgrounds and in concert, and footage also captures various rides, activities and people at the fair. Photos of Dan and Libbee Hasting are also interspersed throughout, several of them at the fair, and ends with a dedication “In loving memory of Dan Hasting.”

“It’s very real, very raw and captured Springfield in a big way,” Kate Hasting said.

In October 2015, Hasting & Co. shot another video in Springfield at a Northwestern football game for the song “Behind the Bleachers.”

She said the band owes where they are professionally due largely to her parents’ belief in the project, which is why the band changed its name from The Kate Hasting Band.

After an initial diagnosis that gave her a three percent chance of survival, Libbee Hasting is facing a long road to recovery, but is slowly improving, according to Kate Hasting.

“Every day there are little changes. She’s staying diligent in her faith to keep her going,” she said.

The duo will play several huge music festivals and be back to perform in the Springfield area in 2019. In late March, Hasting & Co. will release a new single recorded with fellow country performers and “The Voice” finalists the Swon Brothers, with Beale singing lead.
