The Springfield Soup Kitchen will open as a cooling center on Wednesday due to the high heat index.
Fred Stegner, president of the soup kitchen said the kitchen will be open from now to 6:00 p.m.
Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Dontae Jones said it will be hot and humid all through the day, with temperatures hovering around 90 degrees — but feeling like the middle 90s.
The UV level, which gauges the strength of the sun’s ultraviolet rays, is also expected to be at least a 10, which is almost to an extreme level.
The Springfield Soup Kitchen is located at 830 W. Main Street in Springfield.
It’s not clear if the kitchen will be open as a cooling center beyond Wednesday.
