This year’s Bike to Work Day event will take place on Friday, May 17.

The city of Springfield will host its sixth annual Bike to Work day event from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Friday at the City Hall Plaza in downtown Springfield.

Bike to Work Day is designed to promote fitness in a collaborative and environmentally friendly way, according to the city of Springfield’s website.

“Bike to Work Day is an opportunity for us to support healthier lifestyles as well as encourage a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation,” said Springfield City Manager Bryan Heck. “It’s also a chance for the community to stay connected.”

In 2013, Bike Springfield was created after the city hosted the bi-annual Miami Valley Cycling Summit. A year later, the group and the city of Springfield worked together to plan the first Bike to Work Day event.
