The summer season for the Springfield Farmers Market starts Saturday with more than 50 vendors expected to participate each week through September.

The market is located next to the Heritage Center at 117 S. Fountain Ave. in downtown Springfield

“Downtown is growing and get to be a part of helping these small businesses start out and come together,” said Camaren Sloan, events manager for the Chamber of Greater Springfield, which runs the market. “We are creating and cultivating a community.”

The Springfield Farmers Market will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Fresh produce, flowers, jams, locally raised meat, milk, cheese, eggs are among the items vendors will be offering, , Sloan said.

“My personal favorite part about the farmers market is the amount of community that comes together for one event,” Sloan said. “It brings together people from all walks of life.”

The market will now be open every Saturday through September and will accept credit, debit and EBT cards.

The company that bought the old Myer’s Market, next door to the farmers market, will be offering tours Saturday.

COhatch will be opening its doors to the public for the first time to show residents how they are renovating the historic space.

Progress is being made at the old Myer’s Market in as it is being developed into shared office spaces and other amenities.

COhatch announced it was investing about $2 million into the historic building late last year.

The man behind the project, Clark County native Patrick Williams, said tours will be available throughout the day.

“We will be there to answer questions and give tours,” Williams said.

The building is set to open during late summer or early fall, Williams said.

Williams said previously that COhatch will be strong asset to downtown Springfield when it’s finished.

Along with co-office spaces, Williams said the building will bring more dining options to downtown . Williams said five restaurants will permanently move into the space and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Williams said COhatch is taking applications for businesses that want to be permanent members of the building’s food hall.
