The locks can secure a door from an unwanted intruder but can be opened by a police officer or firefighter responding to an emergency.

Organizer and district parent Jennifer Beck said in a phone interview today this effort came after district leaders held a safety meeting in April. The discussion was held months following the mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., where 14 students and three staff members were killed and 14 others wounded.
Beck said at the meeting parents kept asking, “What can we do to help?”
“I think the parents are just ready to help try to get something done instead of sitting and hoping and praying,” she said.
