Regional sleep center expands with acquisition

Operations combined at West McCreight Avenue facility

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Regional Sleep Center in late February acquired Miami Valley Sleep Center, folding the two operations into the Springfield Regional Sleep Center’s facility in the MercyCrest Medical Arts Building on West McCreight Avenue.

“The idea was to increase access for sleep services. It was good to bring the two (sleep centers) together and increase our ability to see more patients on a quick turnaround basis,” said Kevin Griggs, director of the sleep center, Respiratory Care and Home Medical Equipment.

As a result of the purchase, the center increased its registered polysomnographic technologist (technicians) staff by two and expanded testing to seven nights, according to Griggs.

The center was limited to five nights of testing each week prior to the acquisition because of staffing levels. Technicians are allowed only to conduct two tests at one time based on American Academy of Sleep Medicine guidelines.

Joining the center upon acquisition were Dr. Moin Ranginwala and Dr. Shahid Bashir, part owners of the former Miami Valley Sleep Center.

Both worked with hospital officials to keep the practice locally-owned and operated, according to Griggs.

“We are pleased to welcome Drs. Ranginwala and Bashir who have (had) practices in Springfield for a number of years,” Griggs said. “The new partnership will enhance the outstanding treatment and service already being offered through Springfield Regional Sleep Center.”

Griggs said the center is discussing adding six to eight new beds within the MercyCrest facility and possibly moving to a facility near the new Springfield Regional Medical Center.

There are no plans are to expand or move at this time.
