Unclaimed funds are money that has been dormant or forgotten such as rent or utility deposits, uncashed checks or dormant checking or savings accounts, according to the news release.
“Extra money can always come in handy. I encourage Clark County residents to check if you, your family or your friends have unclaimed funds waiting to be claimed,” said Kimberly Zurz, director of the department of commerce. “The Division of Unclaimed Funds stands ready and eager to help Ohioans become reunited with their hard-earned dollars.”
A total of more than 43,400 Clark County accounts are on file with the department, valuing $6.1 million, according to the release. The department also has 8,200 accounts on file for Champaign County, valuing $1 million, according to Karen Bowman of the commerce department.
