$6M owed to county residents

The state is seeking those with unclaimed funds on file with the Ohio Department of Commerce.

SPRINGFIELD — Clark County residents have more than $6 million in unclaimed funds on file with the Ohio Department of Commerce, according to a news release from the state.

In today’s edition of the Springfield News-Sun, June 15, the department is running an advertisement with the names of more than 2,000 people — whose last known addresses are in Clark County — with new accounts being held by the Department of Commerce’s Division of Unclaimed Funds.

Unclaimed funds are money that has been dormant or forgotten such as rent or utility deposits, uncashed checks or dormant checking or savings accounts, according to the news release.

“Extra money can always come in handy. I encourage Clark County residents to check if you, your family or your friends have unclaimed funds waiting to be claimed,” said Kimberly Zurz, director of the department of commerce. “The Division of Unclaimed Funds stands ready and eager to help Ohioans become reunited with their hard-earned dollars.”

A total of more than 43,400 Clark County accounts are on file with the department, valuing $6.1 million, according to the release. The department also has 8,200 accounts on file for Champaign County, valuing $1 million, according to Karen Bowman of the commerce department.
