The Buckeye Wind Project, which is expected to build at more than 50 turbines in Champaign County, has drawn both support and opponents locally. A second phase of the project, which could add about 50 additional turbines, was announced earlier this month. Supporters believe it will create numerous part-time jobs and a handfull of full-time positions, and add additional tax dollars to the local economy.
Opponents have argued the turbines should not be sited so close to local residences, and that not enough has been done to protest residents against noise and other potential problems.
