Mercy Health operates Springfield Regional Medical Center.
Adam Groshans will serve as interim president of Mercy Health- Springfield after the move. Groshans has served as chief operating officer of Springfield for the last two years. Groshans said the position change will have some differences.
“Historically, my role has been centered around internal hospital work,” Groshans said. “So the change will be going from purely internal to more of a different operating system and seeing more of the vision in motion.”

Groshans said he believes he has an interesting prospective coming into the president’s position.
“Because of past experience, I can take what I have done and put it towards better aligning the public and medical communities,” Groshans said.
He joined Mercy Health - Springfield from Tennova Healthcare Lebanon in Lebanon, Tenn., where he served on the administrative team for nearly four years, according to a news release from Mercy Health. At Tennova, Groshans focused on business development, marketing, physician relationships, physician recruitment, service line growth and patient and employee satisfaction, the release says.
Groshans is active with Kiwanis International, serves on a community initiative examining use of emergency department resources and serves on the board of Homecare
He holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Cumberland University and a bachelor’s degree in Business/Marketing as well as a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
Caldwell said Groshans’ marketing and recruiting background, paired with his natural skills at building community, will allow him to thrive as a president.
“Adam has a talent for working with many groups,” Caldwell said. “He’s been involved with our internal hospitalist, anesthesia and radiology services providers to help them understand Mercy Health’s culture and why it’s important to buy into it.”
While Groshans serves as interim president, Caldwell hopes Mercy Health decides to make the position permanent.
“It’s my hope that once home office works through what they have to, that he would be considered and given this position permanently,” Caldwell said.

Springfield Mayor Warren Copeland said he looks forward to building a relationship with Groshans.
“I look forward to working with him in the future,” Copeland said. “They are a very important aspect of our community”
Within the last year, Mercy Health - Springfield has been recognized for its services.
In March, Mercy Health - Springfield was named as one of the top-performing health care providers in the country. In November, Springfield Regional Medical Center received a B safety rating from the Leapfrog Group, a national health care advocacy group, for the first time since 2015.
The Leapfrog Group releases its Hospital Safety Grade report twice a year, providing a letter grade to hospitals nationwide based on a range of measures from preventing infections to instituting policies to preventing errors that can harm patient health.
