Mechanicsburg superintendent to resign

MECHANICSBURG — After serving two years, Mechanicsburg’s superintendent is moving on.

Bobby Moore, superintendent of the Mechanicsburg Exempted Village School District, is expected to submit his resignation during a special board meeting Friday. The resignation is effective on June 1.

Moore will serve as senior director of client engagement for Battelle for Kids. The national non-profit organization supports research and other education initiatives to help improve student achievement in Ohio.

Moore, who will begin his new job on June 20, said he was approached in February and decided to accept. While he enjoyed his time at Mechanicsburg, Moore said the new job was an opportunity he could not pass up.

“It’s really bittersweet,” Moore said.

Daniel Gaver, president of the board of education, said Moore is leaving on good terms, and said he was pleased with Moore’s accomplishments during his tenure.

Gaver said the board is hoping to have a new superintendent in place by the time school starts next year.

Moore said he was proud of what the district was able to accomplish, including two successful levy campaigns, cutting $1.2 million from the district’s five-year forecast and the district’s highest performance rating.

Parents in the district have been particularly supportive, Moore said, and teachers and administrators have been exceptional.

“The saddest part of this whole thing is going to be saying goodbye to these kids,” Moore said.

The district has had several superintendents over the last few years.

Moore took over the job from Mike Nutter, who left the district to take a position in Summit County in 2009. Before taking over as superintendent in Mechanicsburg, Moore had served as a middle school principal and a consultant in the Jonathan Alder School District in northern Madison County.
