Street sweeping begins Thursday
The city of Springfield will begin its street sweeping program Thursday in the northeast quadrant of the city and progress counter-clockwise by quadrants until the cycle is completed.
One complete sweep of all streets will be done.
No parking signs will be posted on alternate sides of streets prior to the sweeping. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed. STAFF REPORT

Music teacher receives education award
Sharon Safley, a general music teacher in Springfield City Schools, has been named the winner of Springfield Symphony Orchestra’s second annual Music Educator of the Year Award.
The award recognizes music educators who have made significant contributions in the classroom or community level.
According to a news release, Safley, who has taught in Springfield City Schools since 2004, was chosen by the committee for her dedication to students and music, and her belief that the arts make a difference in young people’s lives.
The award presentation will take place during the orchestra’s concert set for 8 p.m. March 31 in Kuss Auditorium at the Clark State Performing Arts Center.

2012 Gantlet 5K set for May 20
The 2012 Gantlet 5K will be held on May 20. The cross country-style trail race will travel through the woods and over the trails of George Rogers Clark Park, located at 930 S. Tecumseh Road.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Clark County Park District.

Crabill Homestead committee to meet
The Crabill Homestead Committee of the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gathering House, 936 S. Tecumseh Road, located in George Rogers Clark Park.
A discussion is planned concerning the various events scheduled for the season.
