Southeastern sets alumni banquet

The South Charleston/Southeastern annual alumni banquet will be held in the high school gymnasium on June 16.

A tour of the building will be at 5:30 p.m., with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a short business meeting following. The cost is $15 per person.

Students receive citizenship awards

The George Rogers Clark Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, presented the SAR Outstanding Citizenship Award to 16 eighth-grade students in Springfield and surrounding school districts.

Recipients for 2012 are: Samantha Grace Burchwell and Caleb Dean Moore of Emmanuel Christian Academy; Mark Andrew Horton, Indian Valley Middle School; Coleman W. Clark, Bethel Junior High School; Aaron House, Springfield Christian School; John Driscoll, Tecumseh; Samantha S. Miesse, Northridge Middle School; Emily Musick, Possum School; Wesley Doyle, Reid School; Brody Hannan, Rockway School; Jessica Gravenkemper, South Vienna Middle School; Alexandria Hookfin, Hayward Middle School; Imani Wallace, Schaefer Middle School; William F. Thompson, Roosevelt Middle School; Kyle Jamison, Northwestern Middle School; and Alex Nelson, Ridgewood School.

Awards were presented by President Terry A. Whetstone; past President John A. Buffenbarger, and Compatriots Daniel E. McDonough and Jeffery A. Whitt.

This year marks the 26th for the SAR student program. Each received the award from a SAR compatriot at their school’s awards day assembly or graduation ceremony.

Construction of a 44-unit senior living development on the former Highlands Elementary School lot will begin later this year.

The Cross Circle Neighborhood Association and the Neighborhood Pride Association will have a representative from the property development company to speak about the project at 6 p.m. Monday at the Springfield police substation, 17 W. Johnny Lytle Ave.

Snyder graduates from basic training

Air Force Airman Victor T. Snyder graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

The airman also completed technical training at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.

Vintage baseball game Sunday

The Champion City Reapers, a Springfield vintage baseball club that recreates the game by the rules of the 1860s, will play a home doubleheader against the Tippecanoe Canal Jumpers starting at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Reapers, who play barehanded, have home games at Heritage Park behind the Springfield Twp. offices and fire station at 2777 Springfield Xenia Road.

The event is free, and those who attend are encouraged to take lawn chairs or blankets. staff report
