Legion Post 125 installs officers

The American Legion Post 125, Bailey-Frey installed Howard Patton as its new commander Saturday during a ceremony honoring the outgoing Commander Fred L. Mays Sr. Officials also burned the post’s mortgage.

Mays was honored for his nine years of service.

Other officers elected were: Herman Williams, first vice commander; Cecil Rice, 2nd vice commander; Harry Brown, adjutant, and Jack Howard, sergeant at arms.

Car show to help Tecumseh boosters

The fifth annual Historic U.S. 40 Mini-Nationals Car Show and Shine and Swap Meet will be held Aug. 5 at Tecumesh High School, 9830 W. National Road.

Registration is $10 and will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dash plaques will be presented to the first 200 cars registered. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit Tecumseh Athletic Boosters.

Sekhar wins speaking title

Priyanka Sekhar, a Springfield resident and a former student of Ridgewood School, won first place in the World Impromptu Championship held at the World Individuals Debating and Public Speaking Championships (WIDPSC) 2012. Sekhar also received the top American speaker award. She was one of three individuals who made it to all four categories of the final events.

Prior to winning the World Impromptu, Sekhar won the International Impromptu championship in 2011 at the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition and overall 2nd best U.S. speaker award, which qualified her for the world debate tournament.

She is the daughter of Dr. Jyothi Puram and Dr. Chandra Sekhar. STAFF REPORT

Emergency radio demo planned

Thousands of Ham Radio operators will demonstrate their emergency communications capabilities the weekend of June 23-24. Ham radio operators are often the first to provide critical information and communications.

During Field Day, the public will have a chance to meet and talk with ham radio operators and learn more about Amateur Radio Service. Operators will construct emergency stations in parks, shopping malls, schools and back yards around the country.

The Clark County Amateur Radio Association (CLARA) will demonstrate Amateur Radio at Mid-Ohio Harley-Davidson, 2100 Quality Lane, from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
