John Legend ‘thrilled’ to be joining ‘The Voice’

John Legend is going to be the next judge on the hit television series, “The Voice,” when it returns for its 16th season next spring, according to a story posted Thursday on the Huffington Post and a post on the Springfield native’s Instagram page.

He will be replacing Jennifer Hudson and will join judges, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, according to Huffington Post.

‘The Voice’ role comes just a few days after Legend won an Emmy to become a member of the rare group of entertainers to win the four highest awards in entertainment — Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

It appeared as if Legend requested the position and the network was more than happy to accommodate the recent EGOT winner, according to Huffington Post. Legend won an Emmy on Sunday at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for his starring role in “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

“I’m thrilled to join the coaches of @nbcthevoice. I’ve been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL,” Legend posted on Instagram.

‘The Voice’ airs on NBC.
