Earlier this month, 24/7 Wall Street issued a report listing the least healthy city in every state.
Which city was chosen for Ohio? You guessed it — Springfield.
This isn’t the first time our health status rankings have been low. If this concerns you, you are not alone. Community Health Foundation believes that we can all do our part to promote good health and wellness in our area.
On Tuesday, Community Health Foundation will shine a light on opportunities for local residents to get healthy and stay healthy at Healthy Families ’15. This free, interactive family wellness expo has something for young and old, men and women, families and singles.
A great feature of Healthy Families this year is the chance to talk face-to-face with medical professionals in our “Talk With A Doc” sessions. Local health experts are donating their time and expertise to share information with you.
If you’re tired of surfing the web to get medical advice, these sessions will allow you to hear directly from the experts and get your questions answered. Sessions include information about immunizations, new types of health insurance coverage, sports medicine, the importance of good sleep, women’s wellness and much, much more.
Experts include medical doctors, practicing nurses and mental health counselors. The schedule and a complete session list can be found at www.community-health-foundation.org. You can also pre-register to reserve space for your favorite sessions — there is no cost to do so.
Community Health Foundation believes it is important for everyone to get the quality health care information they need. We support this by bringing people together to share resources.
Many health-related organizations are contributing their valuable time to this event. More than 50 exhibitors will be on hand to show that being healthy is not only possible, but rewarding and fun.
Would you like to get screened for health issues like high blood pressure, bone density and balance assessments? Health pros will be on hand to help you learn your numbers.
Do you want to explore ways to get and stay healthy? Come discover local resources in the Man Cave, Kids’ Clubhouse, Super Seniors, Just For Women and Food and Fitness sections of the exhibit hall.
Many local businesses are sponsors of Healthy Families ’15 and this allows Community Health Foundation to offer the event at no cost to the public. Sponsors include: Security National Bank, Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital, Clark Schaefer Hackett, Dayton Children’s, Hauck Brothers, Wallace and Turner, Garrigans, Cole Acton Harmon Dunn, Littleton and Rue and Young’s Jersey Dairy. These local businesses understand the importance of good health for our community, and Community Health Foundation is grateful for their partnership and commitment.
We do not have to be satisfied with the current health status of Springfield and Clark County. We can do better — but only if we work together and share information.
You can make a difference by taking good care of yourself and your family. Take the time to visit Healthy Families ’15 on Tuesday between 5-7 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center, 275 S. Limestone St.
Bring your family and friends. Attend “Talk With A Doc” and tour the exhibits. Help us celebrate health and wellness!
