ENON — The Greenon Local Board of Education is expected to hire an interim superintendent to replace Lori Lytle.

Former Symmes Valley Local Schools Superintendent Thomas Ben will begin May 23 and earn $600 a day, if board members approve his hiring at a 7 p.m. meeting today, according to the board’s agenda.

Ben would take the helm of the district as board members search for a permanent replacement for Lytle, who announced her resignation April 19. Her resignation is effective July 31.

Lytle resigned to become superintendent of Benjamin Logan Local Schools.

Ben was superintendent of Symmes Valley Local Schools for 16 years before resigning in December 2009, according to Symmes Valley school officials.

Prior to serving as superintendent of Symmes Valley, Ben was principal of Symmes High School for four years, Symmes Valley school officials said.

Greenon board members will also continue discussions on proposed busing changes that put students in kindergarten through fourth grade on the same bus and students in fifth through 12th grades on the same bus.

• Board members will also discuss adopting a $100 per sport pay-to-participate policy for high school students. The policy also includes a $10 club and activity fee and a $225 family cap.

• Pay-to-participate fees being considered for Middle school students are a $50 per sport fee and a $5 club and activity fee. No family would pay more than $225 per academic year.

The board meeting will be held in the board office meeting room at Indian Valley Middle School, 500 S. Xenia Drive.
