Flags at half-mast for late WWI veteran

Flags at area fire stations and government offices have been lowered to half staff in honor of a late World War I veteran, Frank Buckles, who was buried Tuesday at Arlington National Cemetery.

Buckles died Feb. 22 at the age of 110. The former Army corporal was the last surviving veteran of World War I.

Area offices lowered the flags in accordance with a directive sent from the office of Gov. John Kasich, officials said.
