Fire damages Mechanicsburg apartment

A fire caused significant damage at a Mechanicsburg apartment Thursday evening, although no one was home when the fire began.

Mark Randall, assistant chief of the Mechanicsburg Fire District, said firefighters were dispatched to the apartment at 339 Pleasant View Estates at 6:39 p.m.

A fire appears to have started in a kitchen of one of the apartments, melting the siding off the apartment and damaging the contents on a lower floor. Randall said there were four apartments in the building but most of the damage was contained inside one apartment.

It is not yet clear how the fire started, but the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office is expected to assist with the investigation.

Randall said the value of the damage has not yet been determined.

The apartments are managed by Sawmill Road Management Company, LLC.

When firefighters arrived, flames were showing through the dining room window of the apartment. Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours.

Firefighters from North Lewisburg and Pleasant Twp. assisted at the scene, Randall said.
