A classic Molly Ringwald movie and a color that never goes out of style are the themes for the 61st annual Wittenberg Guild Style Show.

“Pretty in Pink” will be a combination tribute to the 1980s and the color, as guests are encouraged to dress in pink or in an ’80s retro outfit and enjoy brunch, fellowship and the latest fashions from area boutiques as modeled by 12 local people.

The fundraising event will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Center Dining Room of the Benham-Pence Student Center on the Wittenberg campus.

“What it comes down to is pink is a springlike color with a feminine feel,” said Erin Risau, Guild president. “It’s really a standout event, so different. All the people who attend enjoy a special camaraderie each year.”

Lending the fashions will be newcomers to the series, Urbana’s One-Eleven Fashion Boutique and Guild Gallery, Wildflower Boutique of Yellow Springs and men’s fashions from Kohl’s and some from Wittenberg, as well.

The day will begin with a silent auction and social hour, followed by brunch and the fashion show at 11:30.

“We find people who have never done modeling to model the fashions and some can be nervous, but the crowd is always supportive,” Ristau said.

Event organizers are always tweaking things to improve the experience, and this year the auction items run more toward experiences such as dinners and trips.

Keeping with the theme, guests can even enjoy pink candy.

The event will also see the return of the Elizabeth Woodhouse Award, a lifetime achievement award for guild members that will go to two recipients this year.

The Wittenberg Guild is a women’s organization that promotes Wittenberg and utilizes its educational resources to enrich the local community.

Proceeds from the Style Show will go toward scholarships for local students to attend Wittenberg, some of whom may be attending the event. Ristau said $35,000 was raised for the program in 2016.

“It’s a time to come together for fellowship and fashion. And the food is always good,” Ristau said.

Seating is limited to the first 250 registrants. Tickets will be sold in advance and at the door if tickets remain.
