Coronavirus: 5 things Clark, Champaign residents need to know today

Here are five things Clark and Champaign residents need to know about COVID-19, or coronavirus today.

1. The Champaign Health District has reported a second positive test result for COVID-19, or coronavirus, in a Champaign County resident. The district announced the case Thursday morning that involves a female in her 50s who is currently hospitalized.

2. Childcare centers must operate under a pandemic license to remain open. The following day cares in Clark and Champaign counties are licensed to remain open: Springfield Family YMCA at 300 S. Limestone St., Champaign Family YMCA at 191 Community Drive in Urbana, Town and County ECE (which is operated by the YMCA) at 2430 Van Buren Ave. in Springfield, Little Sprouts at 413 E. Home Road in Springfield, the YMCA in Urbana is joined by Little Strength Christian Learning Center in Westville, Lulu's Lullaby and Theresa's Gingerbread House in Urbana and Kelsie Sue's Playhouse in Mechanicsburg.

3. United Senior Services is extending the closure of their Clark County center until May 29 to help slow the spread of the coroanvirus, but key services provided by USS will continue.

4. Ohio has made changes affecting school testing, graduation, private school vouchers and more by adding amendments to House Bill 197, which both houses approved. This includes waiving state testing, granting a diploma to any student who was on track to graduate this spring, keeping the EdChoice voucher program the same for 2020-21, and allows schools to use distance learning to make up any number of days missed due to coronavirus closures.

5. While Clark County parks and trails remain open, the National Trail Parks and Recreation District has closed playgrounds in Springfield as a result of the stay-at-home order that went into effect this week. They have also canceled all programs, activities and building rentals through April 6 and postponed athletic leagues for adults and youths.
