CORONAVIRUS: 5 things Clark, Champaign residents need to know today

Here are five things Clark and Champaign County residents need to know about COVID-19, or the coronavirus today.

1. Two of the three new positive coronavirus cases in Clark County were contracted through community spread. Just one of the patients was a known contact of another positive coronavirus patient, CCCHD spokesperson Emma Smales said. The county has 10 confirmed cases.

2. Honda forced to temporarily lay off full-time employees. While workers continue to receive benefits, the automaker has had to implement what it calls "No Work Available" days.

3. Some companies in Clark and Champaign County are still looking for additional workers despite the coronavirus pandemic. Openings include skilled labor positions for manufactures in the area that are still receiving orders amid the pandemic, as well as companies dealing in food production that have seen an increase in demand for their products.

4. Two Springfield colleges have been donating to local hospitals in an effort to help with the coronavirus. The Clark State Community College Registered Nursing program recently donated eight hospital beds to be used at an overflow hospital in Logan County if need, according to Clark State.

Students from Wittenberg University also recently donated supplies to local hospitals. The nursing program donated hand sanitizer, gowns and masks to Mercy Health — Springfield Regional Medical Center, according to a statement from Wittenberg.

5. Springfield residents are being encouraged to join a "social distancing" Easter egg hunt. North Spring Dental is encouraging residents to participate in their "social distancing egg hunt." Residents wanting to participate should make paper Easter eggs, hang the eggs on a front window or door and send their address to North Spring Dental's Facebook page by Thursday.
