A copy of the resolution states that it supports and approves the use of face coverings and six feet of social distancing to all members of the public in an effort to reduce and prevent the transmission of COVID-19 and declares an emergency therein.
Springfield Mayor Warren Copeland issued a mayoral proclamation and executive order in March declaring a state of emergency in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. The state of emergency is still in place, according to city officials.
A copy of the resolution that will be presented today said that the state of emergency declared in March was in response to “actions taken by the federal, state and local jurisdiction to address those conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.”

As of June 27, the Clark County Combined Health District reported an estimated 739 positive cases of COVID-19 in Clark County and eight COVID related deaths.
“The City of Springfield, Ohio is experiencing a local surge of the spread of COVID-19 within our community that threatens to strain our local and regional healthcare systems,” the resolution states.
