Coronavirus: Springfield business offering rides to grocery stores, pharmacies

A Springfield business is changing their operations during the coronavirus pandemic by providing Springfield residents rides to grocery stores, pharmacies and food pantries.

Your Ride Home, created by Bill Perdue, usually provides residents with a safe way to get themselves and their cars home after a night out drinking.

Once Gov. Mike DeWine announced that the Ohio Department of Health was issuing an order to close all bars and restaurants to in-house patrons, Perdue knew he would have to make changes to continue employing his drivers.

“The week before the shutdown I had 111 calls and I think I’ve had 25 since the shutdown,” Perdue said. “With all the restaurants closed and all the bars closed - that was a huge chunk of our business.”

Ohio’s Stay-at-Home order allows exceptions including obtaining medical supplies and medication, visiting a health care professional, or going to get food, groceries, household consumer products, supplies to work from home, automobile supplies, and products to maintain safety and sanitation of residences.

With that being said, Perdue explained Your Ride Home will provide residents with rides to grocery stores, pharmacies and food pantries. Drivers will also be prepared to deliver food and essentials from food pantries to residents’ homes if they can not go out.

“We’re trying to help as much as we can,” Perdue said.

Residents needing a ride should call 937-709-4667 for more information.

“My business has always been about trying to help people stay safe and not drive drunk,” Perdue said. “It’s another crisis, so anything we can do to help, we are trying to do.”
