“We just simply were looking for a way we could give back to our communities,” Jim Dempsey, a manager and funeral director for the memorial and funeral homes said. “We felt that just by supplying gift cards to local restaurants and food trucks it would be a way to support those local restaurants and to help the community, first responders and health professionals.”

To nominate a first responder or healthcare professional, residents should send the nominee’s name, occupation and best way to contact them to rrdmemorial@gmail.com for nominees in the Springfield area or to nick.tcdf@gmail.com for nominees in the New Carlisle area. The nominee’s name will then be entered into the drawing.
Dempsey said nominations are open until April 21 and the winner will be selected on April 23.
Between the memorial and funeral homes, there are about 20 gift cards, Dempsey said.

Gift cards include Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, Los Mariachis, Mel-O-Dee Restaurant & Catering, Mom Andrasik’s Hungarian Cabbage Rolls, Our Hero Subs, Penny Lane Art Gallery & Cafe and The Painted Pepper Food Truck.
“People have just been so awesome,” Dempsey said.
He explained that some of the restaurants and food trucks donated additional gift cards to help the community.
“We know this is such a difficult time for everyone and people who are losing loved ones during this time,” Dempsey said. “We’re just wanting to give back to our communities.”
