Reid’s interest to compete started with her education in mind.
“I decided I wanted to do it for scholarships, but then it turned into something bigger,” Reid said.
Reid first competed in the Miss Ohio Teen USA pageant in October 2011, where she became 2nd runner-up. After that achievement, she thought she would try again.
“It kind of sparked my interest a little, so I did it again,” said Reid.
With the title of Miss Ohio Teen USA, Reid has taken on a different project.
She has been appointed as ambassador to represent the Pink Ribbon Girls, an organization that supports young girls with cancer, and this past week, she had to make a YouTube video where she had to answer three questions about herself.
On Aug. 5, Reid, her parents and two sisters will be heading to the Bahamas, Paradise Island Resort, where she will compete for the title of Miss Teen USA against 50 other girls representing their home state and one representing our nation’s capital.
These next few weeks, Reid’s attention will go toward the competition as she will be preparing wardrobes for the pageant.
“I’m really excited to have this vacation, I’ve never been outside the U.S. before,” said Reid. “It’ll be a fun experience.”
This fall, Reid will be attending the University of Southern California where she plans to major in Broadcast Journalism.
Reid says she doesn’t know if she will continue pageants after this.
“It might be kind of had to balance college and pageants,” she said.
“We are mostly thrilled for the doors that have opened up for her,” said Reid’s mother, Becky Reid.
