School taking safety precautions following evacuation

There was a bigger law enforcement presence at the school Friday.

County sheriff deputies were at Greenon Local School Junior/Senior High School Friday, the day after the school was evacuated during evening hours due to a threat found by a janitor at the school.

Greenon Local Schools said in a statement sent by their spokesperson Megan Anthony that the school was operating normally, except with more law enforcement presence.

“We appreciate the assistance of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and their presence at the school today,” Anthony said in a statement. “We are following their recommendations, including monitoring the restrooms.”

Greenon Junior/Senior High School was evacuated Thursday night after a discovery of “vandalism that included a vague reference to a potential threat.”

“Law enforcement determined that there was no credible threat to our learning environment,” Anthony wrote in a statement.

She said the school district is committed to the safety of its students.

Sheriff’s deputies responded around 7 p.m. Thursday to the school, 3950 Tecumseh Road, which closed its doors and canceled all evening activities after the threat was found. Deputies searched the building and grounds but found no credible threat.

A “One Call” alert was made to Greenon families Thursday night about the incident.

Greenon was set to host a football game Friday night. Anthony said police presence at football games is normal.
